LIVE FROM THE LIBRARY

Well, I said “Live From the Library” was a thing of the past, but I’m down here again because my ancient equipment will not display half of the LiveJournal customization options.

It’s almost six o’clock. There are a five year old and a toddler in the so-called teen section next to the computers (you remember, the bean bags on the floor). Their “adult” supervision looks about seventeen or eighteen; there are two of them also. The children have been shrieking at the top of their lungs for the past fifteen minutes, leaping from bean bag to bean bag, observed with half-witted indulgent smiles by their caregivers. It has gotten to the point where some of the adults using the computers have leaned over and tried to “sshhhhhh!!!” them (not me, I gave up long ago). The librarians of course, ten feet away, are affecting their usual careful obliviousness.

It’s such an incredible relief not to have to come to this place two or three times a week.
