no I was right

March 17, 2008

Actually we drove all around Antioch and Brentwood on Saturday and the only places there was anything but mustard to be seen are those hillsides at Clearbrook and Lone Tree Way.

Today I went north down the water district path to find a particular slope where all three flowers usually bloom. There are a few poppies there, but no lupine as yet. But mustard everywhere, a yellow wave, and so fragrant you’re enveloped in it as you walk– what a year!

We’ve had icy winds for the past few days– 50 mph gusts on Mt. Diablo. But today was breezy and perfectly clear, sunny and warm, and everywhere on the path you could hear a never-ending humming and chirping.

I just wanted to lie on the pavement in the sun, like the cats.
