the only good starbucks

It’s my birthday. I was by myself today, so I walked downtown in the afternoon and had coffee at Starbucks. I hate Starbucks, but–would you have guessed?–there’s not a lot to pick from in Antioch in the way of coffee shops. Besides, this is the only Starbucks on earth I like. I’ve talked about it before. Everyone goes there, and they’re polite to everyone, whether they appear to be homeless, or on the fast track to success.

It used to be a liquor store, but in its final incarnation it had its license suspended so many times for selling alcohol to minors that it finally had to go. So this is what came in its place. Even though they’re everywhere, it’s kind of a strange location, don’t you think? I hope Starbucks Corporate doesn’t find out about it. My wish is that all other Starbucks will die, but this one will remain.

And by the way, if you think things look familiar, Juarez is right across the parking lot.

Happy Birthday! I hope you had a fab day. Did you go to Juarez after Starbucks?

(I’m sorry I didn’t have it in my calendar, or I would have sent in my wish at the beginning of the day.)

    *hugs!*

Thanks! And thanks for commenting here. No, Juarez is closed on Sundays, at least last time I checked. I thought we were going to go out to dinner, but everyone was tired, so we’re going to go tomorrow. Maybe India 4 U!

Happy belated birthday to you. I’ve just now gotten around to checking everyone’s blogs regularly, now that I have full-time interenet.

Starbucks was the first coffee shop that I began hanging out at when I lived in Amherst, so I have certain fond memories of it. There was always a huge turnover of staff, so you rarely saw the same kids working there from one week to the next. Funny thing, it eventually got very shabby and rundown-looking inside, and I don’t think this was intentional; the corporate people would not have been happy.

Yes you don’t take much ownership if you only work there a week! And I’ve heard some bad stuff about how Starbucks treats their employees. But this place always looks great inside, despite the seedy surroundings.

      And thank-you for the wishes.
